$9m in Funding Promised
The Responsible Gambling Council of Ontario has publicly praised the Ontario Government for committing $9m to funding responsible gambling in the province through the Responsible Internet Gambling Fund.
An Historic Investment
The announcement that the Ontario Government would be providing $9m to help responsible gambling in Ontario was announced at the annual Responsible Gambling Council’s annual Discovery Conference.
It was confirmed that the investment, which will be split over three years, will help to fund responsible gambling programs, focusing on online gambling safety and consumer protection. It will enable the Responsible Gambling Council to fund further education programs, build partnerships within communities all across Ontario and provide preventative care where available.
The move has been met with praise across the sector. It is the biggest investment of its kind from the Ontario Government and is seen as a sign of its ongoing commitment to responsible gambling in the region.
A Game-Changer
The Responsible Gambling Council has expressed its gratitude for the investment, describing it as a game-changer. Shelley White, the organisation’s CEO, said that it was a clear demonstration that Ontario is the country’s leading province when it comes to responsible gambling, praising its commitment to creating a strong, sustainable market.
In a press release, White said: “We know online gambling comes with unique risks, and this funding will have a positive and meaningful impact on the lives of so many Ontarians by providing them with the resources and programming to help keep them safe and build a culture of responsible play in this new environment.”
This announcement will be seen as a huge positive after a tough week for sports betting in Ontario. The province has been rocked following an alleged investigation into betting irregularities involving Toronto Raptors player Jontay Porter by the NBA.
