NorthStar Bets, the Ontario gambling site, offers customers the chance to win a gold bar in a Blackjack tournament.
The NorthStar Blackjack Championship has a prize pool of $100,000. One of the prizes is a ten-ounce gold bar, which is worth around $35,000.
Tournament Structure
The tournament will involve a leaderboard players can climb by earning points. Players will earn points from winning consecutive hands of blackjack to progress up the Championship Qualifier Leaderboard. The tournament started on October 21 and after four weeks the top 50 players on the leaderboard will go through to compete in the final. The final, known as the “Showdown for the Crown”, will run into a fifth week.
At the end of the final week, the winner is crowned the best Blackjack player in Ontario and receives a 10-ounce gold bar. There are also daily and weekly cash prizes throughout the tournament. The player at the top of the leaderboard at the end of every day will receive a $250 prize. The third-placed player at the end of each week receives $500, second-placed gets $1,000, while number one at the end of each week wins $2,000.
The Chair and CEO of NorthStar Gaming, Michael Moskowitz, described the tournament as the first of its kind, describing it is a chance for players to showcase their skills in one of the most popular casino games. He believes the tournament indicates the casino’s commitment to innovation.
Hectic Period for NorthStar Bets
The tournament arrives amongst mixed news for NorthStar Bets. The second quarter of 2024 turned out to be a record quarter for the business. The online casino recorded $225.5 million in submitted wagers, garnering revenue of $8.7 million. This level of growth has seen NorthStar Betss outpace the growth of the other options in the regulated Ontario market.
The company also celebrated extending their partnership with Playtech. The partnership with the leading gambling technology company was initially signed in June 2023 with an aim to increase the number of registered users at NorthStar Betss. Playtech invested around $4 million, which is paid back through a revenue-sharing agreement. The number of active players with the gambling site rose by 48% in Q2.
NorthStar Gaming also revealed a range of improvements to the NorthStar Betss online betting platform. They introduced the game NorthStar Elite Blackjack, a table for VIP players, and improved sports insights in the sportsbook.
