3M Open Betting Tips

3M Open Betting Tips

The PGA Tour split its allegiances last week with many of its top stars heading off to the Open Championship while others headed west to California for the Barracuda Championship.

Now the field converges as one on the Minneapolis suburb of Blaine for the 3M Open hosted by TPC Twin Cities for the sixth time.

Open champ Xander Schauffele won't be there, Barracuda victor Nick Dunlap will be, part of a field who know they are going to have to go low if they want to walk away on Sunday night £1m better off and with 500 precious FedEx Cup points in the bank.

Lee Hodges certainly set the bar high 12 months ago by shooting a sensational 24-under par for a seven-stroke, wire-to-wire success that no one saw coming.

And that means that while big stars of the calibre of Tony Finau, Sahith Theegala and Sam Burns will be warm orders in the outright betting market, don't be surprised to see a few lesser-known pros towards the top of the leaderboard on Sunday.

Theegala To Bounce Back From Open Gloom

An Arnold Palmer-designed 7,431-yard, par 71 course at TPC Twin Cities lies in wait for the field this week, a parkland course in sticky heat that is different in every way to the wind, rain, cold and cavernous bunkers which caused such havoc at Troon.

And Sahith Theegala will be one of many PGA Tour pros delighted to be back in the sweltering heat of a midwest summer to take on a course far more to his liking.

Theegala was one of many who got on the wrong side of the draw and missed the cut at The Open, which at least got him home earlier than planned in readiness for this assignment.

A week before Theegala had finished in a tie for fourth at the Scottish Open which was far more illustrative of the form he has been in.

As world No.11 he is the highest-ranked player in the field and with six top-10s on his resumè in 2024 you sense a win is just around the corner.

Rico Ready To Take Next Step

Rico Hoey's rookie year started inauspiciously enough with four straight missed cuts and he's had a few weekends off since then, too.

But amongst the heartache has been some really uplifting displays, performances which have helped the Filipino surge from 173 in the world rankings after a missed cut at the US Open to the 108 where he now finds himself.

His form over the last month has been outstanding with a T6 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, T2 at the ISCO Championship where he was touched off in a play-off and then T4 last week at the Barracuda.

He has shot 11 rounds in the 60s in his last three strokeplay events and that's crucial because it will quite likely require four rounds in the 60s to prevail at Twin Cities.

Ghim Hopes for success

There will be a share of journeymen in contention going into the final day - the history of this tournament confirms that - and Doug Ghim ticks a few boxes to be one of those.

Ghim is not a bomber, but he is a top ball striker and with five top-20 finishes this year he is competitive.

He missed the cut at the Scottish Open last time out, though rounds of 70-68 in a new environment for him hardly smacked of disaster.

He also missed the cut at The Renaissance Club last year and went on to finish in the top 30 at the 3M where he has had two top-20 finishes in the previous three years.
