All eyes will be on the Old Course at St Andrews this week for the 48th Women's Open and there is plenty of value in what looks to be a wide-open affair in Scotland.

This will be the third time St Andrews has hosted the tournament, having previously done so in 2007 and 2013, while it also marks 24 years since this event was handed Major status.

Coughlin To Make Major Breakthrough

American Lauren Coughlin goes in search of her first Major victory this week and she has come close to achieving it twice this season, finishing tied for third at the Chevron Championship and fourth at the Evian Championship.

The 31-year-old is the in-form player heading into the event with victories in two of the last three LPGA tournaments, firstly winning the CPKC Women's Open and then landing the ISPS Handa Women's Scottish Open last time out.

Sunday's four-shot success will provide a huge boost to Coughlin heading into the Open, as she had shown little links form previously, and there is every chance she will end up in the winner's circle again.

The Old Course demands a strong tee-to-green game and Coughlin is 13th in driving accuracy and third in greens in regulation, while her putter often behaves as she is 19th in putts per green in regulation.

With the US star's last four outings reading 4-1-T9-1, it is hard to ignore her claims.

Precise Ryu To Be In The Mix

Another player looking for her Major breakthrough this week is Haeran Ryu and she has also posted some strong results in the big-five events, with fifth-place finishes at the Chevron Championship and Evian Championship and a T9 at the Women's PGA.

The 23-year-old South Korean's form figures in her last five outings reads T9-T23-5-2-T3 and her approach play has played a big part in that strong run, as she is unrivalled in greens in regulation.

Boasting over 73 percent for driving accuracy, Ryu is a strong tee-to-green performer and if she enjoys a solid week with the putter, Major glory could be coming her way.

Hull To Enjoy Scottish Test

It is nearly two years since Charley Hull triumphed on the LPGA Tour but recent signs suggest she is not far away from a return to winning ways and there is arguably no sweeter place to do it than St Andrews.

The 28-year-old from Kettering was tied for fifth at the Dow Championship three starts ago, and despite then missing the Evian Championship cut, she bounced back with a fifth place at the Women's Scottish Open.

Hull is another player who excels in approach play, ranking ninth in greens in regulation, and the confidence she has built up over recent weeks can help her get in the mix.
