The FedEx Cup playoffs continue this week with the BMW Championship as the top 50 in the standings battle it out at Castle Pines Golf Club in Castle Rock, Colorado.

With just the top 30 in the FedEx standings progressing to next week's Tour Championship at East Lake, there are sure to be plenty of thrills and spills at the BMW Championship.

Rai To Book East Lake Spot

The Jack Nicklaus-designed Castle Pines hosts the BMW Championship for the first time and with tree-lined fairways and greens protected by bunkers and water, this test will demand accuracy off the tee and on approach.

Step forward Aaron Rai, who is unrivalled in driving accuracy on the PGA Tour this season, third in greens in regulation, sixth in strokes gained on approach and seventh in shots gained from tee to green.

It has been a wonderful season for the 29-year-old from Wolverhampton and he recently broke his duck on the US circuit, landing the Wyndham Championship after a number of strong performances.

A huge improvement with the putter has helped the Englishman to take the next step in his career and he looks capable of landing the spoils this week, which will see him climb up the FedEx Cup standings from his current position of 21st.

Schauffele To Take Top Spot

Only two players can head into the Tour Championship top of the FedEx standings - Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele - and Schauffele may just be able to knock the current leader off his perch.

While Scheffler has rightly received plenty of plaudits this season, Schauffele has also been making waves with his major victories at the PGA Championship and the Open.

Along with those landmark wins the American has three runners-up finishes, three top-fives and six top-10s, while he has ended up outside the top 15 in just three of his 19 appearances this year.

Schauffele ranks in the top 10 for strokes gained total, on approach, from tee-to-green and putting, while he is also sixth in total driving, and it would be a surprise if he didn't contend this week after his joint-second place at the St. Jude Championship on Sunday.

Hoge Can Book Place At  Final Event

American Tom Hoge's place at next week's Tour Championship is far from secure, as he sits 28th in the FedEx standings, and he will be looking to put on a solid show in Colorado.

The 35-year-old was tied for third at the Travelers Championship in June but he has struggled for form since, missing the cut twice from his next four outings and posting a best result of tied for 46th at the St. Jude Championship.

While struggling to get in the mix, Hoge's approach play has been stellar this season - he ranks third in strokes gained for that category, and that should stand him in good stead for this challenge. He should be capable of finishing high enough to remain in the top 30 at least.
