A First For The BCLC
The British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) is set to launch the first-ever sportsbook lounges in British Columbia. BCLC will offer in-person sports betting at two casinos in The Pacific Province.
Chances Casino Kelowna will host the first-ever retail sportsbook operated by the BCLC in the province, while the second will appear at Parq Casino in Vancouver.
A Great Sports Experience
The Chances Kelowna PROLINE Sportsbook Lounge will open for a sneak peek on Super Bowl Sunday before opening to the public the following day on Monday, February 10th. The lounge is set to include a 25-foot screen, food and drink service, and a PROLINE sportsbook. The Parq Casino outlet in Vancouver will open in March.
A spokesperson for the crown corporation said that the lounges will offer great sports viewing experiences alongside a full suite of competitive and live odds. They expressed hopes that the PROLINE lounges will become go-to viewing destinations for regular matches and the most significant sporting events of the year.
PROLINE replaced Sports Action as the BCLC’s sports betting service when it was shut down in May 2024. After a delay, the service was launched across all lottery terminals in B.C. during the 2024 NFL season kickoff week. At the time, the Manager Of Retail Sports at BCLC, Brett Hanson, described PROLINE as “the most modernised lottery platform in the world.”
Changing The Betting Game
PROLINE is also accessible online via the BCLC-operated website playnow.com and as a mobile app. Now, it is set to appear at two casinos in Kelowna and Vancouver. It is the first Canadian-run gambling service to do away with selection slips completely; offering a completely digitised betting experience. Players make picks online on their phones or at video lottery terminals. After making a bet, players receive a QR code scanned at a retail location using ticket checkers and checkout screens.
BCLC is the official sports betting partner of the Vancouver Canucks, Abbotsford Canucks, Vancouver Warriors, and the BC Lions. The company has plans to introduce more sportsbook lounges around British Columbia in the future.
