July Number Released
In a mostly positive month for US gambling, Pennsylvania has delivered, reporting a total gaming revenue of $500.8m for July, a 7.22% year-on-year revenue increase.
Strong performances for iGaming and online sports betting propelled this.
Numbers Breakdown
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) reported strong performances in most areas. The overall report covered takings from slot machines, table gaming, igaming, sports wagering, video game terminals, and fantasy contests.
iGaming and sports betting were the biggest movers in the state. iGaming revenue came to $174.3m, which is a significant 31.20% increase from July last year. These takings saw $75.5m generated in tax revenue.
Sports wagering generated $414.7m, a 22.52% increase from the previous year. The taxable revenue from sports wagering was $38.6m, another 20.18% increase from the previous year, which resulted in the state earning $13.9m in tax.
VGTs and Fantasy Sports also saw increases of 4.33% and 9.01%, respectively. These two generated a combined $2m in tax.
There were declines in some areas, with slot machines and table games both seeing drops in numbers. Slot machines, which had always been the biggest contributor, generated $204.3m, which, while the biggest number, is a 4.83% decrease from July 2023.
Strong Performances
These numbers follow Pennsylvania’s record-breaking $5.7bn revenue generated in 2023. The state has continued to perform strongly and is a popular spot for gambling, whether it is online or in-person.
Pennsylvania is not the only state to have reported positive revenue numbers in July, with Massachusetts, a state that could legalise online gambling in the next 12 months, also reporting a 3.5% increase from the previous month.
