Europa League Betting Tips - Last 16, 2nd Leg

The Europa League produced plenty of thrills and spills last Thursday and there should be no shortage of drama when the round-of-16 ties are concluded this week.

Three clubs already appear to have one foot in the quarter-finals after Liverpool, Roma and Marseille all established four-goal leads in the first legs.

But the ties featuring Benfica and Sporting both look tantalisingly poised with the Lisbon rivals each drawing at home to Rangers and Atalanta respectively.

There should be more entertainment in Leverkusen after a four-goal first leg against Qarabag in Azerbaijan while West Ham and Slavia Prague will both look to overturn deficits at home to Freiburg and AC Milan.

  • Double Chance: Slavia Prague or Draw
  • Gianluca Scamacca to score at any time
  • Bayer Leverkusen to win and Over 3.5 goals v FK Qarabag
  • Liverpool -2 v Sparta Prague

Slavia Prague vs AC Milan

Milan are among the favourites to win the Europa League this season, but they will have to produce much more than they did in last Thursday's 4-2 win over Slavia Prague to go all the way.

It was a much tougher battle for the Rossoneri than it should have been against a side who were reduced to 10 men in the 26th minute, and they needed Christian Pulisic's late effort to keep Slavia at arm's length in the tie.

The Czech title-chasers have reeled off five straight home wins without conceding in this competition and, after beating Roma 2-0 at Eden Arena last November, they will fancy their chances of pulling off another shock.

Milan's European away form is too patchy for this to be considered an easy ride and, given that they can progress with a draw or a one-goal loss, there is some value to be had in backing the hosts in the double-chance market.

SLAVIA PRAGUE DOUBLE CHANCE

Atalanta vs Sporting

Atalanta can count themselves unlucky not to have come away from the Portuguese capital with an advantage after hitting the woodwork three times and having a goal disallowed in their 1-1 draw with Sporting.

But Gianluca Scamacca was able to find the target with a calm, assured finish from the edge of the box to make it two goals in two games against the Lions of Lisbon.

The 25-year-old was denied further goals by the post and a superb fingertip save by Sporting keeper Franco Israel at Estadio Jose Alvalade.

The Italian international had also scored when the sides met in the group stages and his ability to find the back of the net in European games should not be overlooked.

He scored five goals in five starts and four substitute appearances for West Ham in last season's successful Europa Conference League campaign and looks in the sort of form to do more damage here.

GIANLUCA SCAMACCA TO SCORE AT ANY TIME

Bayer Leverkusen vs FK Qarabag

Leverkusen have a 10-point cushion at the top of the Bundesliga, so there is no reason for Xabi Alonso to overthink this second-leg tie against the champions of Azerbaijan.

The Basque tactician will probably rotate players in a couple of positions, but a strong side is expected as the German side aim to finish the job they began with a 2-2 draw in Baku last week.

Leverkusen, who trailed 2-0 in that game, have had some awkward matches against Qarabag this season, but their superior quality shone through when they won their home group stage contest against Gurban Gurbanov's boys 5-1.

And there should be a few goals in Thursday's rematch too with the hosts probably proving to be a little too strong for the visitors by the final whistle.

All three of Leverkusen's home Europa League games have featured four or more goals while Qarabag's last three away trips in Europa all also yielded over 3.5 goals.

BAYER LEVERKUSEN TO WIN AND OVER 3.5 GOALS

Liverpool vs Sparta Prague

Jurgen Klopp, whose current position may be filled by Alonso in the summer, has a much easier night ahead of him with Liverpool 5-1 up already after powering past Sparta in Prague.

The Reds boss will make plenty of changes for their FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester United on Sunday, but his young back-up players have shown they are capable of maintaining the forward impetus of the club.

Klopp fielded eight players aged 21 or younger in Liverpool's 3-0 cup win over Southampton last month and the manner of that performance suggests the youthful Reds can run riot at Anfield again.

Sparta will travel to Merseyside after an inept display in a 4-0 league defeat to Viktoria Plzen in which they could easily have been beaten by six or more goals.

Brian Priske's side have lost their confidence in front of goal and are making the sort of defensive errors that usually get punished by top-level players.

They know their chances of going through are negligible and will just hope to salvage some pride from the tie.

But Klopp's kids look in no mood to let them off the hook and should run out comfortable winners again.
