The 2025 Miami Open kicks off this week and tennis fans are in for a treat if the tournament delivers as much drama as the previous Masters/WTA 1000 event at Indian Wells.

Hard Rock Stadium will play host to a star-studded field in both the men’s and women’s draws with several compelling storylines set to unfold on the hard courts of Miami Gardens.

The action begins on March 19th with qualifying rounds before the main draw gets underway on March 20th for the women and March 21st for the men.

  • DANIIL MEDVEDEV TO WIN MEN'S TITLE @ 16/1
  • MADISON KEYS TO WIN WOMEN'S TITLE @ 12/1
  • GRIGOR DIMITROV TO REACH THE FINAL (WIN AND EACH-WAY ½ ODDS 1-2) @ 50/1

Medvedev A Threat To Alcaraz In Bottom Half

In the men's draw, all eyes will be on 2022 champion Carlos Alcaraz as he looks to reassert his dominance on American hard courts. The young Spaniard is the pre-tournament favourite in the absence of world No.1 Jannik Sinner after a strong start to the season.

Alcaraz has won one title already in 2025, but the big surprise is that it was indoors in Rotterdam and not at Indian Wells, where he has prevailed for the past two years.

The 21-year-old has won either in Miami or the Californian desert at this stage of the year for the past three seasons, but he struggled to live with Jack Draper over three sets in the Indian Wells semi-finals.

He now has a point to prove and that extra motivation could take him to the title, but he is far too short in the betting to be of interest at this early stage of proceedings.

Draper will be brimming with confidence as he chases the rare "Sunshine Double", but the British lefty's best performances have come when he’s fresh.

The fatigue of playing six tough matches in Indian Wells and arriving later in Miami than most of his rivals count against Draper’s chances.

Daniil Medvedev appeals more at a bigger price than both Alcaraz and Draper because he arrives in good form and with fresher legs.

The mercurial Muscovite won the Miami Open in 2023 and reached the semi-finals last year, losing to an inspired Sinner.

He is in the bottom half of the draw, meaning he avoids a potential battle with top seed Alexander Zverev until the final and the Russian has beaten his potential fourth-round opponent Stefanos Tsitsipas 10 times in their 14 previous meetings.

Keys Leads American Charge In Wide-Open Women's Field

The women's draw is equally intriguing, with a host of players capable of claiming the title.

Defending champion Danielle Collins faces a tough task to repeat her 2024 triumph against a field stacked with in-form contenders.

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka enters as the top seed, but all eyes will be on the red-hot Mirra Andreeva.

The teenager stunned Sabalenka in the Indian Wells final and will be going for her third WTA 1000 tournament win in a row in Miami.

She has shown maturity beyond her years and could be a threat to the established order again, but it may just be too much to expect another win in quick succession.

The 17-year-old could come up against Amanda Anisimova, who won the Qatar Ladies Open in February, in round three while reigning Australian Open champion Madison Keys could stand in her way at the semi-final stage.

The American has been in superb form in 2025, claiming her maiden Grand Slam at Melbourne Park and racking up more ranking points than any other player on tour.

Keys' powerful game should thrive in the quick conditions of Miami, and she'll have plenty of home support as she chases her second WTA 1000 title on American soil.

Her 16-match winning streak may have ended pretty spectacularly with a 6-0 6-1 loss to Sabalenka at Indian Wells, but she remains the player to beat.

Dangerous Dimitrov Eyes Another Deep Run

There are three male players over the age of 30 who are always worth keeping an eye on — Gael Monfils, Novak Djokovic and Grigor Dimitrov.

Monfils, 38, still has plenty of enthusiasm for the game — as he demonstrated when he became the oldest-ever champion on the ATP Tour by winning in Auckland earlier this year.

He reached the third round in Indian Wells before losing a third-set tiebreak to Dimitrov, but Medvedev is the first seed he is due to face in Miami.

Djokovic is chasing a record seventh Miami Open title and will be determined to add one more trophy to his collection in what could be his final appearance at the event.

The 37-year-old continues to defy Father Time and remains a force to be reckoned with on hard courts.

But his form is not great right now with back-to-back opening-match exits at Doha and Indian Wells landing the Serbian his first three-match losing streak since 2018.

Djokovic's draw looks favourable as he avoids some of the more dangerous young guns in the early rounds. And if he can navigate his way to the latter stages, his big-match temperament could prove decisive.

But Dimitrov may have better prospects of going deep in this event if he can recapture the magic that took him to last year’s final.

The 33-year-old stunned Alcaraz in the quarter-finals and Zverev in the semis before losing to an inspired Sinner in straight sets.

And the Bulgarian appears to be rounding into form again after wins over Neto Borges and Monfils in Indian Wells.

Alcaraz is again likely to stand in his way if the draw works out as the seedings suggest, but Dimitrov has won two of their last three tussles and clearly seems to know how to unsettle the Spaniard.
