The PGA Tour's regular season reaches its conclusion this week at Sedgefield Country Club in North Carolina, which has staged the Wyndham Championship since 2008.

The FedEx Cup playoffs begin with the St. Jude Championship next week, but the make-up of the  field will not be known until after the Wyndham, which marks the final chance for those outside of the top 70 to force their way into the three-event season finale.

The big names, many of whom were competing in the Olympics last week, are not at risk of missing out and have opted to take a breather ahead of the dash for the FedEx cash, which has made for an open-looking tournament at Sedgefield.

Sungjae Im, who missed out on a place in South Korea's Olympic team, is the market leader, although he hasn't won on the PGA Tour in almost three years.

Horschel Can Build On Open Finish

Billy Horschel battled his way to a runner-up finish at the Open Championship when we last saw him and the 37-year-old Floridian should be brimming with confidence as he returns to one of his favourite Tour stops.

Horschel has teed it up in the Wyndham on 11 previous occasions and has developed a love for Sedgefield, recording a top-six finish in four of his last seven appearances including when fourth behind Lucas Glover a year ago when he was still searching for top form.

Sedgefield is a tight, low-scoring course featuring narrow fairways and Horschel, an accurate driver of the ball who ranks 13th in strokes-gained putting on the PGA Tour this season, will relish another crack at it.

More Success On The Cards For Thompson

A four-shot victory at last month's John Deere Classic could be a sign of things to come for Davis Thompson, who looks capable of registering a quickfire PGA Tour double with a win in the Wyndham.

Thompson has been in fine form for months, finishing runner-up at the Myrtle Beach Classic and the Rocket Mortgage Classic and ninth in the US Open before shedding his maiden tag at TPC Deere Run.

Ryan Moore, Lucas Glover and JT Poston have all won at both Deere Run and Sedgefield and Thompson, who was a solid 22nd at last season's Wyndham, could add his name to that list.

Pan Suited To Wyndham Test

At big odds, consider a bet on accurate Taiwanese golfer CT Pan, who was a runner-up at the 2018 Wyndham, won by Brandt Snedeker, and filled the same position behind Thompson at last month's John Deere.

Pan participated in the Olympics last week, finishing a respectable 18th behind a number of leading lights, and he could pop up a big price in a field which, while deeper than last week, is lacking in top-quality performers.
