XXXTreme Lightning Roulette was released by Evolution in 2022 as a successor of the extremely popular Lightning Roulette. Like Lightning Roulette, XXXTreme Lightning Roulette is packed with multipliers that are now bigger than ever and can get you up to 2000x your stake. It has an RTP of 97.3% and bets can vary between £0.20 and £20,000. XXXTreme Lightning Roulette’s main gameplay is straightforward for anyone who has played European roulette. You are presented with a Roulette wheel with numbers up to 36. Your job is to place standard inside and outside roulette bets (I will describe this in more detail further down in the guide). After that, just sit back and wait for the wheel to stop turning and see what number it lands on.
However, Evolution Gaming has a few tricks up its sleeve with this roulette version, which we are going to look at now. Some basics before we dive into the extra features is that this game carries a max multiplier of up to 2000x your stake. A stake can range between £0.20 and £20,000, and the max payout allowed is £500,000.
This is where it starts to get interesting and makes this game stand out from a traditional game of roulette. It is important to note that only straight bets get the benefit of the multiplier payouts.
Once you have placed your bets, Lightning Numbers with random multipliers up to 500x will show up on the screen. These can be up to 5 numbers and are triggered by the live dealer pulling down on a lever in every round.
After this, Chain Lightning selects Chain Numbers with extra multipliers, and these are highlighted in red.
The final extra feature before the wheel turns is the Double Strike lightning. This is when it can increase the existing multipliers to up to 2000x your stake! If you select the correct numbers, this can get you up to a maximum payout of £500,000.
Evolution’s original Lightning Roulette featured a black and gold Art Deco theme. XXXtreme Lightning Roulette opts for red and gold instead, which I personally prefer.
While testing the game, I had nothing to complain about the hosts, who add a bit of extra flair to the game with their commentary. You can even switch the mode to First Person in your options, which does not feature live hosts. There is an advantage that you can control your gameplay in the mode, but I personally missed the list of winners popping up on the side and the added interaction offered by the hosts.
There is no doubt that XXXTreme Lightning Roulette is a highly volatile game, which means that you will get a lot of dead spins. However, the up to 2000x multiplier means that you can land exceptional payouts every once in a while, with the maximum payout allowed by the game being £500,000.
If you want to see trends of how often the game is triggering those high multipliers, you can check out the game statistics in options. It will show you the results of the last 500 spins. Of course, roulette is a pure chance game and previous results have no bearing on future results. However, you can calculate the average time it takes for big multipliers and how this compares to other high volatility games to see if it is worth your while.
Note that these enhanced multipliers come at a cost. My biggest gripe with this game is that the 19:1 payout for straight-up bets is very low and is how the house is making up for the increased multipliers. Its predecessor Lightning Roulette pays out 29:1, and your traditional European roulette game pays out 35:1.
Although the 19:1 payout for straight-up bets is the least desirable aspect of the game, it is also how you can make use of the multipliers, so it is a double-edged sword.
The rest is more or less the payouts you would expect from a roulette game. I have summarised it all below:
Bet Types | Details | Payout |
Inside Bets | ||
Straight-up | 1 number | 19-1999:1 |
Split | 2 adjacent numbers | 17:1 |
Street | 3 numbers in a line | 11:1 |
Corner | 4 numbers where they all meet | 8:1 |
Line | 6 numbers (2 streets) | 5:1 |
Outside Bets | ||
Dozen/Column | 12 numbers | 2:1 |
Red/Black | 18 numbers | 1:1 |
Odd/Even | 18 numbers | 1:1 |
Low (1-18)/ High (19-36) | 18 numbers | 1:1 |
I tested this game on my Android phone, and other members of the team tested on other devices. We had no issues playing the game. It was a smooth experience on all platforms we tried out.
High volatility to add to the thrill
Wins of up to 2000x your stake
Massive Multipliers
Can access stats for the last 500 rounds
I give this game an overall rating of 7.5. I think that XXXTreme Lightning Roulette is a good attempt from Evolution and delivers a lot of thrill on top of the usual roulette gameplay thanks to massive multipliers. As a roulette game, it is easy to understand and play. Just choose your bets, sit back, watch the wheel turn, and hope that your chosen numbers will get multipliers. It also is visually appealing and had no technical glitches while testing.
Do I prefer it over its predecessor Lightning Roulette? Personally, no. My main reason for this is the low 19:1 payout for straight-up bets, which is a big downgrade from Lightning Roulette’s 29:1. I prefer sticking to lower multipliers but better payout ratios. This is the main reason I deduct a few points for the game.
However, I can see the appeal of this game for players seeking potential big wins up to 2000x their stake, which is a big increase from the 500x in Lightning Roulette. And the high volatility will definitely keep you on your toes.
If you decide to play it, my advice is to keep a strict bankroll and to not chase losses as you will quickly burn through your funds.
