5 Wild Buffalo Slot Review

4ThePlayer brings a boldly painted vision of the North American plains in 5 Wild Buffalo. In fact we’re in front of nothing less than the Grand Canyon during a spectacular sunset. This is where you’ll find the big reels, which are filled with big symbols. The best looking of these is, perhaps obviously, the buffalo. This symbol will merge into a single, animated symbol when landed in fully stacked form, leading to plenty of excitement. Even better, if multiple stacked buffalos land on adjacent reels then these will likewise merge into an even bigger animated buffalo. 

Since we’ve been speaking about the symbols, we might as well tell you about all of them. We’ve already mentioned the buffalo, which is the highest paying of the lot. The other high pays consist of a bear, wolf, cougar, eagle, and horse. As for the low pays, these are the familiar A, K, Q, J, and 10 card royals. The canyon symbol is the wild, which can substitute for all symbols except the tribal mask scatter. The scatter will award you with free spins if you land at least 3 anywhere on the reels.

5 Wild Buffalo has a couple of bonus features - Buffalo Thunder and the free spins. We’ve already mentioned how stacked buffalo symbols can merge into big animated buffalo symbols, but did you know this feature comes with multipliers? Then there are the free spins, which can be triggered by landing scatters anywhere on the 5 reels. 

Buffalo Thunder 

Land a stack of 4 buffalo symbols in full and this will merge into a single animated buffalo. This merged buffalo holds a random multiplier whose value can range from 5x to 10x. In case 2 stacked buffalos land in full on adjacent reels then these will merge into a single buffalo with one multiplier. This multiplier will be activated if the merged buffalo symbol makes part of a winning combination. 

Free Spins

Landing 3, 4, or 5 scatters will award you with 8, 15 or 25 free spins respectively. During the free spins any wilds landed will expand to fill the entire reel and apply a random multiplier of up to 12x to winning combinations they make part of. Furthermore, wilds will boost the value of the jackpot found on top of the reel they land on. In addition, landing any diamonds on symbols during the free spins will award you with a spin of the Fortune Wheel, the jackpot feature we’ll detail next in our review. The free spins can be retriggered, as landing 2, 3, 4, or 5 more scatters will add 4, 8, 15, or 25 more spins to the total respectively. 

The final feature in 5 Wild Buffalo involves its jackpots. These are known as Fortune Prizes, and there are 5 in total - Mini, Midi, Super, Mega and Ultra. Each one has a starting value found on top of each reel (for the curious, Mini starts at 8x the bet, Midi at 12x, Super at 100x, Mega at 300x, and Ultra at 1,000x). We said “starting value” as each of these jackpots can grow if you land diamond symbols on top of the regular symbols on the reels. The diamonds fly to the top of the reel, boosting the value of its jackpot by a little bit. 

That’s not all diamonds can do, as landing at least one can randomly trigger a spin of the Fortune Wheel found on the left-hand side of the screen. This will award you with the current value of the landed jackpot, which can reach up to 100x in the case of the Mini prize, 200x for the Midi, 500x for Super, 1,500x for Mega, and 5,000x for the Ultra prize.

There’s nothing particularly new in 5 Wild Buffalo, but what it does it does exceptionally well. Really, the word for this 4ThePlayer game is solid - an average 96.01% RTP, dependable high volatility gameplay, good visuals and audio, multiplier features, and even a chance to win one of 5 jackpot prizes. We had a pretty great time playing this one, even if we didn’t come close to triggering that jackpot! So all in all it’s a very fun ride but again, don’t expect any surprises if you decide to come along on this ride across the great Western plains.
