The Chaos Crew slot game has a unique punky theme and a cartoon style, with symbols that would not look out of place as tattoo designs. It is refreshing to see an unusual theme like this in the world of online slots, and the bright neon colours are certainly eye-catching. 

Although it is not immediately obvious, the reels are set on a background of a heavily graffitied wall. This attention to detail is quite impressive, and I have not come across any other slots with this kind of design.At first the audio seems rather at odds with the theme. While I expected a punky, rocky soundtrack, the game begins with a relaxing and mellow background track. However, as soon as you land a win the music becomes much more energetic, with an electro flavour that is more in keeping with the design.

One of the most important symbols in the game is Cranky Cat, which acts as the Wild and can also award a multiplier to the win. The Sketchy Skull symbol appears in the Free Spins round and can further boost multiplier values.

Mystery Multiplier

The Cranky Cat symbol has the power to randomly contain a mystery multiplier in the base game. The possible values are 2x, 3x and 5x, and the multiplier is applied when the Cranky Cat (which also acts as a Wild) forms part of a win.

If more than one Cranky Cat multiplier appears on the reels, they will multiply each other. For example, a 2x multiplier and a 5x multiplier that appear together will result in a total win multiplier of 10x.

Free Spins

The Free Spins round is triggered by landing three or more pink Free Spins symbols on the reels. The game begins with an initial three spins, which is reset to three each time you land a win. A meter to the right of the reels shows you how many spins are remaining.

Each reel has a multiplier value above it, and when the round ends the total multiplier win is the sum of all of those multipliers. To boost these values, symbols can appear which multiply or add to the numbers on the reels by up to 20x.

There are also some non-winning symbols on the reels, which act as blockers to try to stop you from landing a win.

Chaos Crew is an original slot game with a punky theme that makes it stand out from the crowd. However, the bonus game seems difficult to trigger and the base game on its own was not engaging enough to hold my attention for very long. With an RTP of 96.3% and a top prize of 10,000x your bet this game offers some decent win potential, but only if you are lucky enough to trigger the Free Spins round.

It is always nice to see games developers like Hacksaw branching out and trying different themes for slot games, and the punky style of Chaos Crew is a refreshing change from the status quo. However, more could have been done with the game’s special features to make this slot more interesting to play.
