The Elysian Gold slot game has a few special features to explore. Here’s some more information about them:

Pandora’s Box

This feature is based on the legendary Pandora’s Box, which once opened was said to unleash all the world’s miseries. However, in Elysian Gold it has a positive effect instead; when it randomly appears on the reels after a win, it will collect all winning symbols as wins continue to occur. When there are no new wins, the symbols will be released again, giving you more chances to land a win.

Icarus Feature

Land two or more Icarus symbols on the reels to replace the Icarus symbol, and any symbols above it, with individual instances of the same paying symbol to give you more opportunities to win. Icarus symbols can also appear as giant symbols –  in this case, any symbols below it are transformed into Wilds.

Splits and Wild Forge

If a payout symbol lands with a split marker, every symbol of that same type splits in two and counts as a double. If any of those are big symbols, they’re first broken down into 1×1 size before being split.

If the Wild Forge lands, it becomes sticky. After each avalanche, it fills the space directly underneath it with Wilds. This keeps happening until the avalanche sequence ends, or until the Forge gets pushed off the reels.

Avalanche and Big Symbols

When wins occur, the winning symbols explode and new ones drop in until no more winning lines are formed. A new row is also added to the grid with each avalanche, as long as wins continue to occur.

Symbols can also land in larger sizes - when this happens, their value can double, triple or even quadruple.

Bonus Game

Land three or more bonus symbols on the reels to activate the bonus game, where you’ll get up to 25 free drops (25 drops are awarded for six bonus symbols). The round is similar to the base game, but with a few differences - Wild Forge and Wild symbols become sticky for the rest of the round, and a Safety Level feature locks new rows onto the grid each time a free drop leads to a win.

Elysian Gold is a high-quality slot game with a sophisticated design that is worlds away from some of the brighter and - dare I say it - more garish-looking games. Its muted, natural colour scheme is quite refreshing, and the theme incorporates some interesting elements of Ancient Greek mythology. The Elysian Fields isn’t an area that has been touched upon much despite lots of Ancient Greek slots, and the addition of ELK Studios’s time-travelling Kane character is a nice touch for fans of their Gold slot series.

The game has lots of special features, and the Pandora’s Box idea seems particularly original.  Although it might have been nice if the bonus game had been a little more distinctive from the base game, in general this is a well-made slot game that will appeal to those looking for something different to the usual Ancient Greek slots, which usually focus on the various gods and goddesses.

The RTP of 94% is a little disappointing, and it would have been nice to see this increased. However, the maximum win of 25,000x your bet is certainly not to be sniffed at, and overall this is an entertaining slot game that builds on the previous success of ELK Studio’s Gold series.
