Fishin Frenzy Even Bigger Fish Slot Review

Anyone who has played at least one of the Fishin Frenzy slots will be familiar with Fishin Frenzy Even Bigger Fish’s visual style… A bit too familiar, even. Barring a few tweaks the game’s graphics have remained unchanged since that the series’ first entry, which was released way back in 2014. That includes the cartoony fish, the boat scatters, the fisherman character, and even the pelican high pay! You can think of this symbol reuse as the slot equivalent of tatty yet much loved jumper, but in our opinion it’s a style that, by this point, is quite long in tooth. 

We’ve mentioned how familiar these symbols are, but in case you aren’t they consist of a pelican, hat, fishing rod, lifesaver, and tackle box high pays plus low-paying A, K, Q, J, 10, and 9 low pays. There are also the various fish, which hold cash values, and fisherman Frankie, as well as boat scatter. The final symbol is the wild found on reels 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, which can substitute for all the paying symbols in order to complete winning combinations.

The “Bigger Fish” part of  Fishin Frenzy Even Bigger Fish comes in the shape of a variety of bonus features. The fishing feature is standard, but there are also upgrades, free spins, and even upgrades within the free spins to tackle! 

Fishing Feature

Also known as Cash Collect, the fishing feature is a staple in this genre of slot. All 6 reels of the game hold fish symbols with a range of cash values, while reel 6 has Frankie the fisherman. Land the fisherman together with any number of fish symbols and he will fill the entire reel before collecting all values of the fish in view. 

Fishing Upgrades

 Fishin Frenzy Even Bigger Fish has a set of 5 upgrades you unlock through the Cash Collect feature. First time you trigger the Cash Collect unlocks an additional fisherman on reel 1. This second fisherman can land during both regular and free spins. The second time upgrades the fishermen to Bait ‘n’ Catch symbols. These lock cash symbols on the reels for a set of respins that continue so long you land more fish symbols. 

The next upgrade is the Bigger Catch feature, which applies a multiplier of up to 5x multiplier to the values of the fish caught by the fishermen. The fourth upgrade adds a Pick A Fish symbol to the reels. If landed with a fisherman, the Pick A Fish will have you pick one of 3 fish that will award you with another cash prize. 

The final upgrade is unlocked by triggering this Pick A Fish feature. Dubbed Big Splash, this upgrades the free spins with higher paying fish, golden jackpot fish, and paylines that pay out both ways (left to right and right to left). 

Free Spins

Landing 3 or more scatters awards you with a round of 10 free spins. Any of the above mentioned upgrades will remain active during this round, while any fishermen landed will be collected for round upgrades. These consist of additional free spins and multipliers for the values of any fish caught by the fisherman symbols. The free spins round can also be further boosted through the Big Splash mentioned above.

At first glance,  Fishin Frenzy Even Bigger Fish looked like little more than another rehash of the Fishin Frenzy formula - and it can be described as such, should one feel unkind. However the upgrades unlocked by triggering the Collect feature do liven up the experience even if, in our experience, it takes way too long to actually land the fisherman symbol. Maybe we were just unlucky, or it was a case of the medium-high volatility and 95% volatility working against us. 

So, overall Fishin Frenzy Even Bigger Fish is a fun enough time for fishing aficionados or, better still, fans of the Blueprint Gaming series. Other players might want to look elsewhere for their slot fun, even if the promise of wins reaching up to 10,000x the stake might sound enticing.
