Fortune Teller Slot Review

Fortune telling is a concept that goes hand in hand with luck. It is only natural that slot developers have a strong focus on this theme. This one is an older classic. It has a subpar RTP of 94.17% and dated graphics (common for a 2014 slot game). Nevertheless, it has a lot going for it that makes it quite relevant. We are going to cover its advantages and shortcomings in our Fortune Teller slot review below.

Fortune Teller RTP and Wagering

RTP and Wagering

Fortune Teller is a 5-reel, 3-row slot with 20 paylines. It is quite the traditional setup for slot enthusiasts. You can choose how many paylines you wish to activate, which gives you the flexibility to bet as low as £0.20 and as much as £100 per spin. The coin value ranges from £0.01 to £0.25. As you can bet up to 5 coins per payline, there are plenty of options to customize your stake.

The slot game’s RTP is notably low at just 94.17%, which is below the industry standard of 96%. This means that theoretically (and over the long run), you are getting back £94 for every £100 you wager, not counting any bonuses.

It is not surprising to learn that a lower RTP of 94% can put many off because there is a lower long-term value as well, with so much better Play ‘n GO or magic-themed slots being available. The maximum win is quite good at 5000x your stake, which is the top payout achievable.

Fortune Teller Symbols and Audio & Video Design

This slot game has a mystical theme with symbols and visuals centred around magic and fortune-telling. The game’s design features a dark, atmospheric backdrop with rich colours and subtle animations like flickering candles and a blinking eye in a raised hand. Nothing too groundbreaking here, but for its time, the animations are particularly smooth. By the way, the eye in the palm is a symbol of protection against the evil eye.

The sound design complements the theme well—haunting violins and tambourines go nicely with such a setting, adding mystery to the overall ambience overlaid with chirping crickets.

Mostly, however, the sound and graphics quality are underwhelming.

Key symbols include the Crystal Ball, which is the Wild and substitutes for all symbols except for the Scatter and Bonus. The Black Cat is the Scatter that can trigger free spins. The Tarot Cards are the bonus symbols in the game that will activate the aptly-named Tarot Card bonus round.

The most valuable symbol is the Fortune Teller herself (more like Jasmine from Disney’s Aladdin)—with the highest payout of a whopping 1000 coins.

Fortune Teller Mobile Features

You can play Fortune Teller on desktop, tablet, and mobile, but the mobile experience is not exactly neat. It is not an HTML5 game. That being said, like any older or classic Play ‘n GO game, it does open well on smaller screens, and you can play it properly. We tested it on various phones, and the experience was frictionless.

Fortune Teller Bonus Features

There are three main bonuses in the game—Wild (Crystal Ball), Free Spins (Black Cat), and Bonus Round (Tarot Cards). The bonus round is a pick-and-win type of game. We will break each one down below.

Crystal Ball Wilds

Crystall Ball Wild

The Crystal Ball is the game’s Wild symbol and plays a major role in boosting your wins. It substitutes for all other symbols except the Black Cat (Scatter) and the Tarot Card (bonus round) symbols. The mechanic is simple—the Wild can help you in creating winning combinations. While it does not trigger a standalone bonus round, landing multiple Wilds can lead to some of the highest base game payouts, with up to 5000x your stake for five Wilds on a payline.

Cat Spin Free Spins

Free Spins

The Cat Spin feature is triggered when three or more Black Cat scatter symbols land anywhere on the reels. Once triggered, you will get 15 free spins. During these spins, the cat symbol becomes a Wild symbol, increasing the chances of forming winning combinations by replacing others. Wins during the free spins are multiplied by 3. Free spins cannot be retriggered within this feature (common for older slot games).

Tarot Card Bonus Game

It is a classic pick-and-win game that launches with more of a folk ballad music when you land three or more Tarot Card symbols. Once activated, you will see four tarot cards to choose from to reveal cash prizes. The more matching cards you pick, the higher your rewards. Every card you pick will reset the screen with four new cards (draw with replacement mechanic). This mode can help you bag some serious coins as it triggers quite often even though the probability of getting exactly 3 of the same symbols in a 5-reel, 3-row slot game with 12 symbols is (approximately) just 3.16%.

There are four types of tarot cards in this bonus game—the Sun, Wheel of Fortune (incorrectly written as Well of Fortune, probably to save space), Lovers, and Death. Here is the table for how much each matchup pays:

Fortune Teller Final Thoughts

Personally, I feel Fortune Teller is not a good use of your time and money when so many other magic-themed slot games are available out there. It has a few things going for it—namely a good max win potential and interesting bonus rounds—but nothing that sets it apart.

Nevertheless, the bonus rounds trigger quite often. As it is a medium volatility game, the 94.17% RTP might not be that bad of a deal.

Rating: 5.5 (Mediocre)

The game’s downfall is in the fact that there are remarkably better alternatives for similar features, magical themes, or from the same provider. But let us give it a fighting chance here. The RTP is subpar, so that is a bummer. The graphics and sound are underwhelming. The potential max win is good and the bonus games are fairly interesting. User experience, especially on mobile, is so-so. And in terms of originality, we are not handing out big marks to Play ‘n GO this time around.
