Magic Mirror Slot Review

Magic Mirror is set in a majestic fairy tale world, featuring some of the imagery we associate with classic fantasy stories. The background scene depicts a tall stone tower on a hill, surrounded by forests. It’s a simple design, but it’s pleasant to look at while you play. 

The audio is basic, which is common in Merkur Gaming’s slots. Retro sound effects are triggered whenever you spin, as if you’re playing a real slot machine. 

There’s more detail in the game’s 10 symbols, though. These include a princess, unicorn, shield, ring, royals, and the titular mirror. The Princess symbol is the most valuable: land 5 to win the top payout of 500x your bet. 

As the Magic Mirror symbol is Wild, it substitutes for all other symbols. It’s also the Scatter, so it can trigger the Free Games round.

Magic Mirror has two bonus features: a Free Games round and a Gamble feature. The Free Games feature includes expanding symbols to help you line up wins, and the Gamble round allows you to wager a prize to potentially boost its value.

Free Games Feature 

If you land three Magic Mirror symbols anywhere on the reels, you’ll win a cash prize and 10 free spins. 

The Free Games feature includes a special expanding symbol, which is randomly chosen from the set of symbols at the start of the round. If that special symbol contributes to a win on any free spin, it expands to fill all positions on the reels. 

Gamble Feature

The Gamble feature is available after each win in the base game. If you want to try it, you can bet your prize for a chance to double its value. On the other hand, you might prefer to collect your winnings and keep playing instead. 

Click on the card or ladder icon to play the corresponding gamble game. In the card game, you need to try to guess the colour of a face-down playing card correctly to double your staked win. The ladder game features several steps with a different prize on each one. Press the ‘1:1’ button to randomly climb up the ladder and increase your prize value or go down to a lower-paying step.

If you’ve played any of Merkur Gaming’s other slots, certain parts of Magic Mirror should feel familiar. The graphics are good enough but not particularly stunning, and the gameplay is simple. 

Crucially, though, the payouts are unimpressive — the maximum win is 500x your bet. Some of the other slots out there offer far, far higher payouts overall. 

Still, Magic Mirror has its fair share of good points, enough to maybe make it worth your time. The Free Games feature is implemented well and includes an expanding symbol, which can increase your chances of building winning combinations. The Gamble round can lead to bigger wins, too.
