The combination of bonus features in this slot makes for an entertaining mix. I like the ‘all in one’ devil symbol which acts as a modifier, wild, scatter, bonus icon, collect symbol, and more. It feels very fitting that the devil should have control over all elements of his dominion, and as your reels are set in hell, that includes them too. I particularly like that the Bonus Buy feature includes a low-wager option, requiring players to make a smaller 6x wager in exchange for a Devil Wild plus a prize or coin symbol; and it is a shame that UK players cannot access this.

Now, just as all the fabled deals with the horned beast have a catch, so too does the Play With the Devil slot machine. Firstly, the RTP is below the current market average of 96%, though not by enough to be seriously concerned, though, I think it would have been excellent if RTG had decided to go with 96.66% as their RTP for the game instead of 95.71%. Despite this being a recent release and a high volatility game, the maximum wager is also incredibly low at £20 per spin, which could make this slot unappealing to large-budget players.

The only presentational gripe I have is the playing cards which are used as the low-paying symbols. This feels a bit lazy in a slot which has striven to present a unique concept. Instead, I would have liked to see the developers have fun with these symbols; maybe a contract for someone's soul, a wanted poster for a rogue demon, or a guitar pick; there are plenty of possibilities.

My biggest concern with the Play With the Devil slot is how the game's free spins bonus round is triggered. It is becoming a trend to do away with scatters in favour of a collection metre that is randomly triggered. However, many of these systems will either have a defined maximum threshold (where the bonus is guaranteed to happen), or a scenario on the reels that will automatically trigger the bonus. Play With the Devil has neither of these and while scatters on the reels are completely random in just the same way as this mechanic, something about the reels not influencing the activation of the bonus feature does not sit right with me.

Overall, however, Play With the Devil is a well-designed and entertaining slot that puts a smile on my face. Therefore I rate the game at a strong 7.5/10
