Taco Brothers RTP and Wagering

There are 243 win ways included in the 5 reels and 3 rows that make up the Taco Brothers slot machine. Winning combinations are formed a little differently to classic video slots with three or more matching symbols required across consecutive reels starting with the leftmost reel. Unlike other slot games, these symbols can appear in any position on each reel and do not need to line up in the traditional manner.

Accepted wagers start at 10p and are capped at £50 per spin. To make their wager players simply need to click on the coins icon which will then display all 12 of the potential stake options. While auto spins and quick spins are included in the game, these options are not available to UK players.

With an RTP of 96.3%, Taco Brothers outperforms both the 96% average and the 95% average found in other ELK Studios slots. The volatility is rated at six out of ten, by the developer, meaning it can be classed as a medium volatility game. Statistically, winning combinations should appear every 4.16 spins due to the 24% hit frequency rate.

The maximum reward for each spin is 1,500 times your total bet. Because of the potential multiplier values included in the Escape Free Spins bonus players have the best chance of winning this top prize via this feature.

Taco Brothers Symbols and Audio & Video Design

Storytelling is becoming increasingly popular in slot games, with developers aiming to create an entire slot experience which combines visuals, sound, story, and bonus elements to provide players with unique and engaging gaming experiences. Taco Brothers is a perfect example of a slot which has nailed this formula, and its story is one of the most unique ones created to date.

The story of the titular Taco Brothers is as follows; in 1881, in a traditional Mexican town called Santa Maria, an egregious crime was committed. The evil Captain Diaz is terrorising the townsfolk and has stolen every taco in the town. The town needs a hero, and they find it in the three Taco Brothers, Pepe, Pico, and Paso. It is the player's job to help the brothers to conquer the Captain and return Tacos to the town, via spinning the reels and engaging in bonus features.

The slot machine's strongest elements are unquestionably its design, theme, and overall narrative. The game is visually intricate and has stylised cartoonesque visuals and the attention to detail is exceptional. The reels are transparent, and the backdrop is a view of the town. This decision, though subtle, makes the game feel so much more immersive, and the symbols have been carefully designed to ensure they are still able to stand out, even on smaller screens.

Although each of the brothers has unique characteristics—Paso is crazy about cigars, Pepe is constantly playing the guitar, and Pico is preoccupied with explosives they band together to create an exciting slot concept. There is even an immersive Mexican-inspired soundtrack (but you can mute this in the sound settings if you prefer).

Moving on to the paytable and the symbols used, the Taco Brothers represent the premium value symbols. It is worth noting that ELK Studios constructs its payouts in coins, and not an ‘x’ multiplier. Therefore, a minimum of 50 coins will be awarded for matching three of these symbols, and a maximum of 400 coins will be awarded for matching five of these symbols.

The low-paying symbols are a lamp, a cactus, a guitar, and a bottle of tequila; there are no theme-interrupting playing card symbols in sight. These symbols stand in for the low-paying symbols in the game; payments vary according to whatever symbol matches on a payline. A minimum of 20 coins will be awarded for matching three of these symbols, and a maximum of 80 coins will be awarded for matching five of these symbols. When a winning combination of any value is achieved the symbols used in the combo will spin in celebration which adds a fun, fiesta touch to this slot.

Taco Brothers Mobile Features

Taco Brothers was developed with HTML5 technology and launched in September 2015 (which makes its visual design even more impressive considering the game is nearly a decade old). Since ELK Studios is a mobile-first publisher, all of its games are optimised for players using mobile devices. The game can be played directly from a browser and can be enjoyed on any PC, laptop, tablet, or smartphone.

Taco Brothers Bonus Features

As you have probably noticed if you have read this far, Taco Brothers is a slot that does things differently, and the trend continues with the bonus features offered. There is a respins bonus and a free spins bonus round with an additional sub-feature called ‘running wild’.

Re-Spin Feature

When two Taco Brothers wild symbols appear on reels 2 and 4, the Re-Spin feature is activated. On any reel that does not have a Taco Brothers wild or safe scatter, you will receive a respin. This offers you the opportunity to land three safe scatters, which will activate the crucial Escape Free Spins bonus.

Free Spins (Plus Running Wild Feature)

You can start the Wild Escape Free Spins bonus by landing a safe scatter symbol on reels 1, 3, and 5. A bomb will detonate before the game commences, revealing the multiplier level—1x, 2x, or 3x. After that, you'll be taken to a fresh set of reels that include the three brothers, Captain Diaz, and the stunning Señorita. The latter is the endearing daughter of Captain Diaz.

There is a Running Wild feature during the free spins. On reel 5, the brothers' symbols descend one at a time and take the role of a walking wild. Captain Diaz will lock up and immobilise the brother if his symbol appears anywhere on the screen.

The wild brother will be unlocked and released if the Señorita shows up. Not only may the Señorita grant new free spins, but she can also renew the running wilds. The free spins round can end in one of two ways; either the brothers have all escaped or all of the brothers are locked up in jail. The overall aim is to aid the Taco Brothers in their mission to defeat Captain Diaz by blowing up the safe and unloading the vault through a concealed tunnel.

Taco Brothers Final Thoughts

Taco Brothers is one of those slots that demonstrates the immersion and entertainment that online gaming can provide. When compared to the vast majority of slots in regards to theme, design, and features, Taco Brothers puts them to shame thanks to its massive emphasis on attention to detail. No corners are cut with this slot experience; all the symbols are unique, the free spins bonus comes with a custom mechanic, the Mexican theme (though growing in popularity) is less commonly seen, and the storytelling is immersive and humorous.

The RTP for this game (96.3%) places Taco Brothers above the market average and the medium volatility rating offers the perfect balance between accessible gameplay and a dash of challenge. With 243 win ways, spins may result in more than meets the eye, plus, players of all budgets are catered for here with wagers accepted between 10p and £50 per spin.

The only area of gameplay which could be criticised is the 1500x top payout. This is on the low end of modern slots, but considering this slot is nearly 10 years old, and has so many other things going for it, this certainly is not a dealbreaker. If anything, the only true criticism I can make is that I want more! Both for more slots like Taco Brothers and more games featuring the Taco Brothers too.
