Classic-inspired 3-reel slots can be quite hit or miss with many solely relying on a sense of nostalgia to attract players. Therefore, when I heard that the highly modern development team Thunderkick was creating a retro 3-reeler, I had to do a double take.
Despite my scepticism, I have been pleasantly surprised by what I have seen on offer in the Triple Royal Gold slot. It truly feels like a love letter to the good old-fashioned casino slot, complete with iconic symbols and the aforementioned 3x3 reel format, perfectly paired with modern touches, like increased paylines, avalanching reels, and free spins bonus rounds.
Statistically, the Triple Royal Gold slot machine shapes up really well too. The RTP of 96.41% is well above the current market average, and though the 5,000x top prize is not the highest, it is still aptly generous. I have never come across a 3-reel slot (sans those with expanding reels), that uses an avalanching symbol mechanic and I am surprised more developers have not dabbled with the concept.
Overall, the Triple Royal Gold is a slot that surprises and exceeds expectations in equal measure. The perfect bridge between retro and modern slots, I think both modern and classic slot fans will enjoy giving the reels of this game a spin or two.
