The Wanted Dead or a Wild slot game has a nice design that fits the Wild West theme well. The background shows a bright yellow sun against a red sky, and the silhouettes of some twisted trees add an interesting detail. The symbols themselves are beginning to look a little dated on the reels (the game was released in 2021), but again they do a good job of conveying the game’s theme. The game comes to life with animations if certain symbols appear (for example, the VS symbol sees two cowboys with multiplier values fight it out on the reels), although the base game can be a little simplistic if you are not lucky enough to trigger these features.

The audio is surprisingly enjoyable, with a Western-themed soundtrack that helps to give the gaming experience a bit of an atmosphere. When bonus symbols appear on the reels they make a certain sound effect, such as a train whistle for the Great Train symbols and the sound of a gun loading for the Duel symbols.

The most important symbols in the game are the three bonus symbols that trigger the bonus rounds: Duel at Dawn, Dead Man’s Hand and Great Train Robbery. Land three of the same symbol to trigger the corresponding bonus.There is also a VS symbol, which can expand across an entire reel to form a winning combination as well as awarding a multiplier of up to 100x.

Duel at Dawn

Find three or more Duel symbols on the reels to trigger the Duel at Dawn free spins feature, where you will be awarded 10 free spins. During the round, additional VS symbols will be added to the reels (more on that later).

Dead Man’s Hand

This feature is also triggered by landing at least three Dead symbols on the reels. The aim of the game is to collect as many Wild and multiplier symbols as you can. Each time you collect either a Wild or a multiplier, the number of remaining spins is reset to 3. Once you have run out of spins, the game turns into a “showdown”, where all the Wilds you collected will appear on the reels and any wins will be multiplied by your final multiplier total.

The Great Train Robbery

Land three or more Great Train symbols to trigger this feature, which is a Sticky Wilds bonus game with 10 free spins. Any Wilds that appear will remain on the reels for the duration of the feature.

VS symbols

VS symbols are additional Wilds that can appear stacked on the reels. When they appear, two outlaws with different multipliers will appear on the expanded reel. They will have a duel, and the winning outlaw’s multiplier will be applied to your win. The top multiplier is 100x.

Wanted Dead or a Wild is an entertaining slot game with plenty of bonus features that help it to stand out from the crowd. Although the three main bonus features seem a little difficult to trigger, the VS symbols were a bit more frequent and the multiplier duel animation is quite unique. With an RTP of 96.38% and a max win of 12,5000x your bet, this is an attractive slot game with medium-high volatility.

Although there is no shortage of Wild West-themed slots out there, Wanted Dead or a Wild is one of my preferred options due to its fun animations and variety of bonus rounds. It would be nice if those bonus rounds were a little easier to trigger, but all in all Wanted Dead or a Wild still provides a great gaming experience and the potential for some decent wins.
