Best Practice Guide
The Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) of the UK has launched its first International Best Practice Guide.
This guide aims to help policymakers and online gambling operators in the decision-making process regarding online gaming and sports betting regulation.
Increasingly Complex Landscape
The international gambling landscape is becoming increasingly complex, and navigating its regulations can prove extremely difficult. The aim of this guide, published by the BGC, is to help regulators and operators understand this landscape by sharing regulatory practices and experiences from around the world.
The guide highlights several core objectives that are common round the world, including consumer protection, preserving customer choice, and maintaining gambling-free crime, among others.
One key purpose of the guide is to highlight the pros and cons of different approaches, allowing regulators to make careful, informed decisions. It will also help operators better understand the decision-making process and can help guide them when launching their sites.
Effective Regulation
The guide was launched at this week’s G2E event in Las Vegas. Professional services firm Alvarez and Marsal (A&M) have also been involved in the guide, with extensive research being completed by the BGC.
BGC CEO Grainne Hurst spoke with excitement about the launch. Hurt said “This sector will no doubt continue to grow internationally, offering huge potential benefits to existing markets and those which are currently developing”. They continued by saying that through effective regulation, the sector would continue to grow, and governments would be able to raise taxes, create jobs, and stimulate growth.
