EasyJet Moves Into Online Gaming
EasyGroup, the company that operates the popular British airline EasyJet, has launched a brand new sports betting brand, EasyBet.
The newly launched site was developed through a partnership with the established sports betting operator Matchbook.
UK Launch
The new site, Easybet.net, has been launched in the UK, and it holds a license from the United Kingdom Gambling Commission and the Alderney Gambling Control Commission. The site offers a peer-to-peer betting system, allowing players to lay and back major sporting and non-sporting events.
At the time of writing, there is only a limited number of sports available on the site, which is something that is likely to grow as it gains traction and begins to implement marketing strategies.
Brand Recognition
The EasyGroup is best known for its EasyJet airline, but it also operates in several other industries, with its chain of Easy Hotels being perhaps the most popular. The company has also had to deal with many brand infringement issues over the years, taking down sites like EasyBet.com and EasyBet.co.za.
EasyGroup founder Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou said that a move into the sports-betting world was a natural step for the company. As well as expressing his delight at the launch, he said “It is a natural new market to complement our other large consumer brands in the UK and Ireland.”
Explaining why the site has opted for a peer-to-peer betting system, Haji-Ioannou said “EasyBet offers peer-to-peer betting with the aim of giving customers fairer odds than traditional bookmakers. It allows you to bet on sports events. You can back what you think will win or lay what you think will lose. We believe this model offers fairer odds to the consumer.”
