Bigger and Better Than Ever
Paddy Power’s annual Bigger 180 campaign has been a huge success during the PDC Darts World Championships, racing over £1m for Prostate Cancer UK. The campaign was launched at the start of the tournament and was backed by British cycling legend Sir Chris Hoy.
The World Darts Championship has become increasingly popular in recent years, and Paddy Power has been quick to capitalise on this. Prostate Cancer UK is the official charity partner of the tournament, and Paddy Power’s Bigger 180 campaign sees the company pledge £1,000 to the charity every time a 180 is scored. This is the third year the campaign has been held.
The popular bookmaker set out a target at the start of the tournament to get 180,000 sports fans to check for prostate cancer using an online checker on the Prostate Cancer UK website. This checker explores family history and asks other medical questions.
The campaign also sees £60,000 donated every time a nine-dart finish is achieved at the event. When this happens, £60,000 is donated to the charity, the player, and a fan in attendance at the event.
An Exciting Tournament
The tournament has seen over 880 180s thrown, with Luke Littler throwing the most. The 17-year-old has thrown a total of 64 180s, making him the biggest contributor to the charity. Callan Rydz and Chris Dobey have also made big contributions, hitting 43 and 36 180s each.
These numbers come ahead of a final that promises to see even more thrown, with Luke Littler taking on Michael Van Gerwen. Littler is looking to avenge his loss against Luke Humphries from last year’s final, while Van Gerwen is fighting to show that the old guard is not finished just yet.
