Legislation Likely
It’s been a busy few weeks for Thailand, with a new Prime Minister being sworn in on the 6th of September and the public also voting in support of a proposed legalised gambling ball.
The country is now set to press forward with this legislation.
Public Support
The Thailand government put the proposed gambling ball to a public hearing, with Julapun Amornvivat stating that 80% of those in attendance supported the proposed casino project. Amornvivat has stated that feedback from the hearing will be used to reshape the bill as the country looks to move forward with the proposed legislation.
The revised bill will now return to the cabinet for approval before proceeding to the Council of State for review. Once this step has been finalised, the bill will be brought into law, and the beginning phases of the plan can be put into action.
Entertainment Complexes
The proposed legislation will allow the construction of five casino resorts in Thailand. The country will be looking to Singapore for inspiration and building entertainment-style complexes that do not just focus on casino gambling.
Gambling is currently illegal in Thailand, with this proposed bill set to see the biggest shakeup the country has seen regarding the issue.
New Prime Minister, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who was sworn into office on Friday, September 6th, will look to continue with her predecessor’s plans for the gambling industry in Thailand, believing it will provide huge economic benefits to the country. It is expected to provide a significant tourism boost for the South East Asian hotspot.
