The Premier League serves up a Sunday treat ahead of the EFL Cup final, in the shape of a London derby.

Arsenal are second in the table and though their place in next season’s Champions League looks assured, they need to get back to winning ways after failing to win any of their last three games in the top-flight.

Chelsea come into this match off the back of four straight wins across all competitions, but their performances have been far from convincing against relatively weak opposition.

While the Blues start this weekend in fourth place, there are a number of clubs in close proximity and like Arsenal, they too are in need of a victory.

Misfiring Gunners Can Still Beat Chelsea

Arsenal have failed to win any of their last three Premier League games and have only scored one goal in the process.

They are badly missing their injured attackers Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz, with Mikel Arteta lacking depth in forward positions, particularly centrally.

Yet despite a run of victories, Chelsea are suffering from some very similar problems, with Enzo Maresca struggling to find someone to replace the unavailable Nicolas Jackson in his line-up.

Over the last week they have struggled to beat Leicester and FC Copenhagen, with both matches ending in uninspiring 1-0 victories.

Going further back Chelsea have lost when facing better teams in 2025, with Manchester City, Brighton (twice) and Aston Villa all inflicting defeats and the hosts have the ability to grind out a win on Sunday.

Caicedo The Main Culprit For Card-Happy Blues

Chelsea have been one of the most ill-disciplined sides in the Premier League this season.

Only Southampton have seen more cards than the Blues’ total of 76 this season, which is an unusual statistic for a team in the upper echelons of the top-flight.

The chief culprit for Chelsea has been Moises Caicedo, who has been carded nine times in the Premier League, with only Crystal Palace’s Will Hughes and Fulham’s Sasa Lukic getting into trouble more often.

In recent weeks the frequency of the combative midfielder’s indiscretions has skyrocketed, with the Ecuadorian being booked in five of his last seven league appearances.

With Chelsea seeing a total of four yellows when they last met Arsenal in November, Caicedo seems the obvious pick to receive one this time round.

Palmer Still Trying Despite Dry Spell

Cole Palmer has not scored in 10 games across all competitions and even missed a penalty against Leicester last weekend.

Yet, though the playmaker has suffered a dip in confidence, he is still making a concerted effort to get on the scoresheet.

Palmer has made 23 attempts at goal across his last five Premier League games.

The England international remains Chelsea’s most likely goalscorer despite his dry spell and can also be expected to take free-kicks and penalties on Sunday.
