Bet On The EFL Cup
Southampton vs Stoke City
Southampton manager Russell Martin has made it abundantly clear how seriously he is taking his team's EFL Cup last-16 tie on Tuesday night - and the Saints should be at full-strength.
Southampton could take a lot of credit for their performance in a narrow defeat to Manchester City on Saturday and Saints can be fancied to quickly overwhelm Stoke, who have badly lost their form in recent weeks.
SOUTHAMPTON TO WIN AND OVER 2.5 GOALS
Brentford vs Sheffield Wednesday
Brentford fans have been treated to some great entertainment at the Gtech Community Stadium this season and Bees followers can enjoy some EFL Cup success on Tuesday night.
Brentford have scored a total of nine goals in their last two home fixtures, scoring a last-gasp winner against Ipswich on Saturday, and the Londoners should have too much firepower for Sheffield Wednesday.
BRENTFORD TO WIN AND OVER 2.5 GOALS
Brighton vs Liverpool
More EFL Cup goals can be expected at the AmEx Stadium on Wednesday night when Brighton host Liverpool. Both sides were involved in a 2-2 draw in the Premier League at the weekend - and another high-scoring fixture seems on the horizon.
Liverpool won the Cup last season and new manager Arne Slot will be keen to continue his team's run in this competition as he bids to claim his first silverware as Anfield chief. Expect attacking intent from both sides and a ding-dong encounter on the south coast.
OVER 3.5 GOALS
Preston North End vs Arsenal
This fixture has not come at a great time for either side. A high-scoring game and a narrow Arsenal victory may be on the cards. The Gunners are dealing with several injury problems and may opt to rest star names for Premier League matches.
The enormous odds about a home win are tempting, given Arsenal have been a long way short of their best from their Bournemouth defeat onwards, but Preston suffered a late hammerblow on Saturday. North End squandered a 3-0 lead to draw 3-3 at Plymouth, so the shell-shocked Preston rearguard will probably be vulnerable against Arsenal.
ARSENAL TO WIN AND BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
Tottenham vs Manchester City
Deciphering Pep Guardiola's approach to this game is arguably the key to success for punters. The Manchester City manager has hinted that he is tempted to field some youth players at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but he has also commented on the benefits of having three days off after the Southampton victory on Saturday.
The most likely scenario seems to be a side which is similar to the one which beat Southampton. Expect a strong starting line-up designed to get the game won early, allowing academy players to get minutes from the bench in the second half.
MANCHESTER CITY TO WIN
