EFL Cup Semi-Final 2nd Leg Betting Tips - Liverpool vs Tottenham

Tottenham hold a 1-0 lead in their EFL Cup semi-final with Arsenal but Ange Postecoglu's team face a mammoth task to complete the job in the second leg at Anfield on Thursday 6th February (20:00).

Spurs have a miserable record at Anfield and the injury-hit north Londoners have progressed from only four of their last 10 semi-finals in all competitions.

It has been a miserable campaign for Tottenham but they head to Merseyside following two straight wins and they remain a threat in attack despite their injury woes.

History Suggests Another Night Of Struggle For Spurs

Liverpool have lost just one of their last 27 home matches with Tottenham in all competitions and they should be able to extend that sequence with a victory on Thursday.

The Premier League leaders enter this fixture following an impressive 2-0 win at in-form Bournemouth on Saturday and they have lost just three times in all competitions this term.

Spurs' 1-0 win in the first leg of this tie was one of those losses but the Reds are unbeaten in their last nine home games in the League Cup (W4 D5), winning the last four in a row by an aggregate score of 15-4.

Tottenham will have to be at their very best to book their ticket to Wembley, but they have been eliminated three of the last five times they’ve won the first leg of a League Cup semi, and no side has been eliminated at this stage of the competition having won the first leg more often.

Postecoglu's men are up against it but there is scope to expect them to get on the scoresheet.

Liverpool have conceded in four of their last five home games and they were lucky not to be breached by Bournemouth on Saturday. Spurs have scored in six successive games and they can find the mark on Merseyside but it may be in vain with the home side fancied to win the encounter.

Reds Star To Make His Mark

Dominic Szoboszlai has had his critics at Anfield since his arrival in July 2023, but there is little doubt the Reds perform better when he is in the side and he has started to pose more of a threat in Arne Slot's line-up.

The Hungary international possesses a wicked shot and a threat from set-pieces and he looks a value bet to get on the scoresheet on Thursday.

Slot is likely to name a strong starting XI with Sunday's FA Cup clash with Championship strugglers Plymouth next up, so most of Liverpool's big-hitters will line up against Spurs.

And Szoboszlai, who scored in the 6-3 win over Tottenham earlier this season, should be backed to hit the net again this week.

The Hungarian has four goals this term but he should get chances to add to that tally against a side who cough up plenty of opportunities.

Corner Count Could Mount At Anfield

Liverpool will play on the front foot at Anfield as they look to overturn their 1-0 deficit and that could see the corner count build on Thursday.

The Reds' matches in the Premier League average 10.52 corners per game, while Tottenham's fixtures are running at an average of 12.71, so it would be no surprise to see at least 11 flag kicks taken this week.

Tottenham are unlikely to sit back and defend their slender advantage and an open affair looks likely in this decider.
