Euro 2024 Betting Tips - Last 16 Tuesday

Tuesday sees the conclusion of the round of 16 at the European Championships, as the final four teams take to the field in the hope of sealing their spot in the quarter-finals.

The late kick-off sees two of the tournament's chief entertainers from the group stages go head-to-head as Austria - who topped a difficult Group D that featured France, the Netherlands and Poland - take on a Turkey side which has scored two of the best goals so far in Germany.

The first match of the day could also provide plenty of excitement as surprise Group E winners Romania - playing in their first major tournament knockout match since 2000 - face the Netherlands in Munich.

Romania vs Netherlands

Dutch Can Spoil Romanian Party In Munich

Despite finishing third in Group D after falling to a 3-2 defeat to Austria in a thrilling matchday three encounter, the Netherlands will still be firm favourites to reach the quarter-finals and they should do so in style against Romania on Tuesday.

The Dutch have lost just two of their last 10 games, and six of their seven victories within this run have been accompanied by a clean sheet - including dominant wins over Scotland and Iceland.

Romania may have lost just two of their last 18 matches but they have struggled against current top-10 sides - losing each of their last six, including their 2-0 defeat to Belgium in the group stages - and they could come unstuck against the quality of the seventh-ranked Netherlands

Another Goal For Gakpo

Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman has a plethora of attacking options to call upon to get his side over the line in this encounter and arguably the best performing of his strikers so far in Germany has been Cody Gakpo.

The Liverpool man has put in strong performances in each of his three starts so far and leads the way with two goals for the Oranje, netting against both Poland and Austria.

Gakpo has the best shots on target percentage of any member of the Dutch squad in Germany with 57.1% so he should be able to trouble the keeper on Tuesday. With half of his on-target shots finding the net, do not be surprised if he increases his goal tally to three in this one.

Dragus Could Get Stuck In For Tricolours

Romania have been a joy to watch over the course of this tournament but they may struggle to create many clear-cut opportunities in Munich, which could lead to frustration and a number of late tackles.

One man who has disrupted momentum on plenty of occasions is Trabzonspor striker Denis Dragus, who comfortably leads the way in terms of fouls committed for the Tricolours with seven - three more than his nearest teammates.

While he has still yet to be shown a card in this tournament, Dragus could be a tempting prospect in the fouls market and, with an average of just over three fouls per game, he may well be one to watch once again.

Ausatria vs Turkey

Brilliant Burschen To Edge Thriller In Leipzig

After shocking many by topping Group D ahead of the Dutch and World Cup runners-up France, Austria could be dark horses to go deep into the tournament and the Burschen could find some joy against an equally enthralling Turkey.

Ralf Rangnick’s men have been in fantastic form of late, losing just two of their last 19 matches and winning 14 - including a 6-1 demolition of Turkey in a friendly back in March.

However, five of their last six games have seen both teams find the back of the net and this could offer some hope to the Crescent-Stars, who netted five goals in the group stages in Germany - a tally bettered only by Austria and the hosts.

Attacking Talents To Shine In Goalfest

Given the entertainment that both these sides have produced over the course of this tournament, a goal-laden encounter could be expected in this final round-of-16 clash.

Each of Turkey’s three group games provided plenty of excitement. Ten goals were scored across their matches, averaging more than three per game, while three came in their last clash with the Czech Republic - a game that saw a late winner from Cenk Tosun send Turkey through to the knockout stages as well as a record 20 cards brandished, two of which were reds.

Austria meanwhile were part of arguably the game of the tournament in their 3-2 win over the Netherlands, showing their goal-scoring capabilities. Both sides will feel confident that they can progress to the next round, which should lead to a very attacking affair.

OVER 3.5 GOALS

Baumgartner Can Star At Home Ground

With six goals scored across their group-stage fixtures, Austria pose one of the most dangerous threats in front of goal and one man in particular could relish the opportunity to increase his tally on Tuesday.

Christoph Baumgartner will be more than familiar with the Red Bull Arena pitch, given he plies his trade with RB Leipzig, and the 24-year-old netted five times for Leipzig in midfield last season in the Bundesliga.

The Austrian has also scored at the European Championships, against Poland in their 3-1 win, while no member of the Burschen squad has had more shots on target than Baumgartner’s three. He looks a great shout in the goalscorer market.
