There are six FA Cup fifth-round matches taking place this weekend, as the battle for this precious piece of silverware steps up a gear. The road to Wembley is getting shorter.

We have a tip for each of the fixtures taking place in the competition across Saturday and Sunday.

  • UNDER 2.5 GOALS IN CRYSTAL PALACE VS MILLWALL
  • UNDER 2.5 GOALS IN PRESTON VS BURNLEY
  • BOURNEMOUTH TO WIN AND BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
  • MANCHESTER CITY HALF-TIME AND FULL-TIME
  • OVER 3.5 GOALS IN NEWCASTLE VS BRIGHTON
  • FULHAM TO BEAT MANCHESTER UNITED

Crystal Palace vs Millwall

Early kick-offs on a Saturday afternoon can take a while to get going, as the players and fans settle into the weekend, so London rivals Crystal Palace and Millwall could be involved in a drab affair.

Millwall will probably arrive at Selhurst Park eager to keep things tight and a low-scoring contest seems on the cards. The fact that Palace were involved in Tuesday-night Premier League action should help Millwall's cause.

The Lions, who have not played since keeping a clean sheet in a 1-0 Championship victory at Derby County last Saturday, can repel Palace if the Eagles are short of zest.

Millwall have conceded just two goals in total in their last three games and they showed their mettle with a 2-0 triumph at Leeds United in the previous round of the FA Cup.

UNDER 2.5 GOALS

Preston vs Burnley

A similar story to the Palace v Millwall fixture could unfold at the same time much further north, as Preston North End host Burnley in an early kick-off. Preston have scored only four goals in total in their last six matches.

Preston got to this stage of the FA Cup despite failing to score at home to Wycombe. North End needed to win a penalty shootout to overcome the League One side and book a cup date with Burnley.

Preston faced Burnley in the Championship earlier this month and the match ended in a goalless draw. They have met twice in the league this season without a goal being scored. A similar result can be expected at Deepdale on Saturday, as Burnley are incredibly good defensively.

Burnley have conceded just nine goals in 34 Championship games this season. The Clarets have gone nine consecutive games in all competitions without conceding a goal. That streak includes an FA Cup trip to Southampton. Burnley have kept a clean sheet in 13 of their last 14 matches.

UNDER 2.5 GOALS

Bournemouth vs Wolves

Bournemouth have been in fantastic form over the last few months and the Cherries seem like potential FA Cup winners. The south-coast side can be fancied to progress past Wolves at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday afternoon, but the visitors probably have enough about them to get on the scoresheet.

A Cherries win and both teams to score appeals as the best investment. These sides met in the Premier League last Saturday, but the 1-0 victory for Wolves had much to do with the fact Bournemouth defender Illia Zabarnyi was handed an early red card.

If the home side can keep 11 men on the pitch for the duration on Saturday, they should have too many weapons for Wolves. Bournemouth thrashed Nottingham Forest 5-0 at the Vitality Stadium a month ago, showcasing their attacking verve.

Both Bournemouth and Wolves conceded twice in the Premier League on Tuesday. Expect goals in what should be an attractive Cup tie.

BOURNEMOUTH TO WIN AND BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE

Manchester City vs Plymouth Argyle

The FA Cup has taken on massive importance to Manchester City, given their struggles in every other competition this season, so expect a focused and ruthless performance against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday evening.

Plymouth were the giant killers of the previous round, dumping Liverpool out the cup, but a trip to a highly motivated Manchester City seems an even tougher mission for Miron Muslic's side. Expect the home team to get on top of the visitors early and to be leading at both half-time and full-time.

A Premier League victory at Tottenham on Wednesday night, which featured a rare clean sheet, provided a timely injection of confidence into Manchester City ahead of their FA Cup mission.

MANCHESTER CITY HALF-TIME AND FULL-TIME

Newcastle vs Brighton

Newcastle have scored a total of six goals in their last two home games, firing four past Nottingham Forest last Sunday, and the Magpies will expect to serve up another treat for their adoring followers at St James' Park on Sunday afternoon.

The cups have been providing great joy to the Toon Army this season and it is not beyond the realms of possibility that Eddie Howe's side end up with two trophies to parade come the end of the campaign.

Losing in the league to Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday night should not do much damage to Newcastle's morale - the Premier League trophy seems to be heading to that ground - and Howe's team should go on the offensive from the off against Brighton on Sunday.

Brighton have enjoyed a recent revival in form and should also approach this FA Cup assignment in positive fashion, so expect goals to flow at St James'. Four or more goals in the game seems a sensible investment.

OVER 3.5 GOALS

Manchester United vs Fulham

Downbeat Manchester United fans enjoyed a rare fillip on Wednesday night when their side managed to beat Ipswich Town 3-2, but it shows how far United have fallen that a home success over such strugglers was a cause for great celebration.

United's problems appear to run deep and Fulham look well equipped to add to the Red Devils' woe on Sunday. The Cottagers, who have been well organised and difficult to beat all season, can send United fans into a rage by winning at Old Trafford.

Fulham won at Wolves on Tuesday night, so have had an extra 24 hours to prepare for the United mission. They are five places above their opponents in the Premier League table and can confirm their current superiority by winning at healthy odds on Sunday.

FULHAM TO WIN
