Goodwood Sussex Stakes Day Betting Tips

Goodwood Sussex Stakes Day Betting Tips

Day two of Glorious Goodwood is headlined by the Qatar Sussex Stakes on Wednesday afternoon, with the Group 1 feature race attracting a stellar field.

They have seven more races at Goodwood from 1.50-5.20 on Wednesday afternoon and Enda McElhinney has previewed the main event alongside a trio of support acts.

3.35 Goodwood - Qatar Sussex Stakes (Group 1, 1m)

ROSALLION and Henry Longfellow were first and second in last month's St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot and it was a race in which the runner-up enjoyed a perfect trip and had the tactical advantage swinging for home. But Rosallion, the Richard Hannon-trained son of Blue Point, cut him down inside the final furlong or so. That was impressive and Sean Levey's partner is very much the one to beat now. Behind in a laboured seventh that afternoon was the 2000 Guineas winner Notable Speech. Charlie Appleby's string are in better shape now and having run down Rosallion late on in the colts Classic in May, a bounce back from the Godolphin inmate cannot be ruled out.

SELECTION: ROSALLION

NEXT BEST: NOTABLE SPEECH

1.50 Goodwood – Handicap (1m4f)

There is a very open starter on day two. Subsequent is on a roll after wins at Haydock and Salisbury and will now aim to give trainer Andrew Balding back-to-back wins in this contest. He's respected, albeit 7lb higher and in tougher company now. Handicap debutants Voyage and Clockmaker for Richard Hannon and David Simcock respectively could have more to offer, the former having been very highly tried in two starts since impressing at Newbury on his debut, but ATTILA THE HONEY might be good enough to handle the drop back in trip for Charlie Johnston and William Buick. She won over 1m5½f at Newbury on her penultimate start and backed it up with a fine second over 2m at Ascot under a penalty behind a progressive stayer.

SELECTION: ATTILA THE HONEY

NEXT BEST: SUBSEQUENT

2.25 – Goodwood - Oak Tree Stakes (Fillies' & Mares' Group 3, 7f)

Kathmandu boasts strong credentials after excellent efforts in French Group 1s on her last two starts, and Brian Meehan's filly is perhaps set to benefit from the fitting of a first-time tongue-tie now. Preference, though, is for JABAARA after Roger Varian's charge confirmed the promise of her Listed successes at Musselburgh and Carlisle (both over this 7f trip) in taking a silver medal home from the Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket (1m, good) earlier this month. She was ultimately no match for Porta Fortuna on the July Course, but will find nothing of that ilk in her path now and James Doyle can steer her home in front.

SELECTION: JABAARA

NEXT BEST: KATHMANDU

3.00 Goodwood - Molecomb Stakes (Group 3, 5f)

It could be a good afternoon for James Doyle and he's got standout claims with AESTERIUS in the Molecomb in the Wathnan Racing silks for Archie Watson. The winner of the Dragon Stakes at Sandown (5f, good) at the start of this month, the Mehmas colt travelled supremely well in that Listed event despite appearing a touch keen early on. He had his rivals struggling some way out and was merely kept up to his work for a decisive win, with this race surely earmarked thereafter. If he can avoid traffic problems in this bigger field, he should be hard to topple. At a big price, Ayr debut winner King's Call is one to note for Kevin Ryan. The Dandy Man colt has seemingly shown plenty at home and knew his job on his debut. While it's a slight surprise that he comes back from 6f, he is open to plenty of progress and should give his running.

SELECTION: AESTERIUS

NEXT BEST: KING’S CALL
