Saturday's match in Dublin could be a dress rehearsal, with Andy Farrell expected to lean heavily on his Ireland squad when he leads the British & Irish Lions in Australia.
The Wallabies beat Wales and Georgia in July but experimented to little success during the Rugby Championship.
Coach Joe Schmidt, who came in after Eddie Jones' disastrous return, has used November as a further chance to build depth and with decent results, beating England 42-37 and Wales 52-20 before losing 27-13 to Scotland.
Schmidt knows the Ireland squad well, coaching Leinster from 2010 to 2013 before being in charge of the national team from 2013-2019.
Ireland were underwhelming in their 23-13 loss to New Zealand and 22-19 win over Argentina before beating Fiji 52-17.
They should make a winning end to the autumn but the improving Aussies can push their hosts closer than expected.

Wallabies To Push Ireland
There was genuine fear that the Lions' series Down Under could be a 3-0 whitewash but Australia's improvement since the Rugby Championship suggests they will only get better by next summer.
They fell off the pace against Scotland but were also missing key players through rest and rotation and Schmidt will be determined to end their tour on a high note when he returns to the Aviva.
Their two victories from three autumn Tests is arguably one more than was expected and they could push Ireland close.
The Six Nations champions remain a classy outfit, as shown by their drawn summer series in South Africa, but look a yard off on both sides of the ball and Australia are worth backing with a decent start.

Hansen To Have A Hand in Win
Ireland wing Mack Hansen is a player with additional motivation to shine on Saturday.
The 26-year-old was born in Canberra and played for the Brumbies and Australia at under-20 level but qualifies for Ireland through his mother and, after joining Connacht in 2021, made his full international debut the following year.
A shoulder injury ruled Hansen out of the Six Nations and summer trip to South Africa but returned for this month's games and crossed for a try against Argentina before grabbing a brace in the win over Fiji.
Among the most popular players in the game, even Australian fans might applaud him scoring on Saturday.

Tom Looking For The Wright Stuff
A similarly mercurial talent, Hansen's former Brumbies colleague Tom Wright was deemed surplus to requirements under Jones but he appears central to Schmidt's plans.
After grabbing 10 tries in the 2024 Super Rugby Pacific, Wright scored in Australia's opening Test of the year against Wales and added to his tally against New Zealand in September.
He has excelled this month, grabbing a try in the win over England and a hat-trick in Cardiff.
With the Wallabies still in their infancy under Schmidt, they can struggle to string phases together, but that benefits someone like Wright, who thrives in broken field play.
Ireland have struggled defensively, especially in transition, and the 27-year-old can find gaps in Dublin.
