Netherlands vs Turkey Betting Tips - Euro 2024 Quarterfinal

Berlin’s Olympiastadion will be the stage of a crunch Euro 2024 quarter-final clash between the Netherlands and Turkey on Saturday evening (20:00).

The Dutch are dreaming again, 36 years after their last taste of European Championship glory in Germany at Euro 88.

Ronald Koeman’s side put on their best display of the tournament in destroying Romania 3-0 in the round of 16 with Cody Gakpo taking his goal tally to three and Donyell Malen adding a brace off the bench.

Two goals from Merih Demiral and a wonderful last-gasp save from Mert Gunok secured Turkey’s place in the last eight at Austria’s expense.

Fans of the Cresecent-Stars are in a frenzy at the thought of a repeat of Euro 2008, where they made the semi-finals.

However, they will have to face the Netherlands without several key players.

Midfielders Orkun Kokcu and Ismail Yuksek picked up one-game suspensions after collecting their second cautions of the competition against Austria.

And centre-back Demiral may also miss the game in Berlin as he is currently under investigation for making a political gesture associated with the Turkish nationalist movement in the moments following his second goal.

But captain Hakan Calhangolu and defender Samet Akaydin, who both missed the game against Austria, will return after suspension.

The Netherlands could be unchanged from their win over Romania with Koeman’s decision to start with Steven Bergwijn vindicated by the effectiveness of the team in and out of possession.

Malen may have to make do with another role as an impact substitute, despite his two goals in the last-16 clash.

Attack The Best Form Of Defence

The last two matches between these two nations have seen a combined 13 goals with Turkey winning 4-2 in March 2021 and the Netherlands gaining ample revenge with a 6-1 in September 2021 during World Cup qualifying.

The Euro 2024 data also suggests we should expect goals with these teams ranking in the top eight at the tournament for expected goals (xG), with the Dutch (6.56) coming in at sixth, and Turkey (6.11) in eighth place.

Koeman’s side have had the fifth-most shots (63), while Vincenzo Montella’s men have had the sixth-most (57).

And while Turkey have defended their box well at times, they can buckle under pressure — which almost cost them when Austria were pushing for an equaliser on Sunday.

The Crescent-Stars have a combined expected goals against (xGA) of 8.0 from their four games and have conceded the most shots (59) of any side left in the competition.

The nature of Turkey’s depleted midfield and the fact that the Netherlands can be both brilliant and frustratingly slack in defence — as they were at times against Austria — make this look like a clear over 2.5 goals play.

Card Count Against Turkey

Turkey’s disciplinary record at Euro 2024 has left them without key players for both knockout games and it could ultimately be their downfall if they don’t dial down some of their aggressive challenges.

French referee Clement Turpin has been appointed to the game by Uefa and he tends to dish out the cards early to lay down the law.

His warnings may or may not be heeded by the teams with the reputation of some of Turkey’s players possibly going against them after their involvement in the dirtiest game in Euros history against the Czech Republic last month.

During that clash, ref Istvan Kovacs issued 18 cards in total — including 16 yellows and two reds.

The Dutch players are no angels and could lose their rag if the result isn’t going their way.

But given they have only received four cautions in the tournament to Turkey’s 18, the -1 card handicap for Montella’s men seems well within the bounds of possibility.

Bardakci Needs To Tone It Down

Turkey centre-back Abdulkerim Bardakci has been carded twice at Euro 2024, yet he has only officially been credited with two fouls.

The Galatasaray defender is a fierce tackler and he may need to tone it down if he is to avoid having his name taken by Turpin on Saturday.
