Bet On The Premier League
Brentford vs Nottingham Forest
Very few pre-season predictions would have involved suggesting Nottingham Forest would travel to Brentford in their final game before Christmas sitting fourth, just above Manchester City.
The Tricky Trees are enjoying a stunning season and they showed they aren't ready to be chopped down just yet as they came from behind to stun Aston Villa at the City Ground last weekend with late goals from Nikola Milenkovic and Anthony Elanga.
It means three wins in the last four games and, ironically, their good form comes despite them being the only side in the last 11 games to lose against Pep Guardiola's misfiring champions.
Take out that Etihad reverse and Forest have only suffered one other defeat this season on the road in the league, losing at title contenders Arsenal.
They have won four times and drawn twice and the Gtech Community Stadium – where Brentford are unbeaten in eight this season – would be yet another statement win for Nuno Espirito Santo and his side after victories at Anfield and Old Trafford as well as draws at Brighton and Chelsea.
The Bees have been good at home but they have played six of the bottom seven already and Bournemouth are the only team in the top half to come calling.
They haven't kept a single clean sheet and have conceded 11 goals in their last five home games. Forest are capable of upsetting them.
NOTTINGHAM FOREST TO WIN
Ipswich vs Newcastle
If Forest appeal on the road, then Ipswich also look overpriced as Newcastle get set to visit Portman Road for a Premier League game for the first time since December 2001.
Back then, Nobby Solano got the only goal and the Magpies will be feeling good after qualifying for the Carabao Cup semi-finals in midweek.
The Cup success made it back-to-back wins for Newcastle but Eddie Howe's side had previously gone four without a victory and had conceded 10 goals in that sequence.
Jack Taylor's stoppage-time winner for Ipswich at Wolves last weekend was badly needed. It was just their second win at the 16th attempt but it preserves hope for Kieran McKenna and his squad as the likes of Leicester, Everton and Crystal Palace all go into this weekend with three wins.
Ipswich have produced performances at times this season that have merited better results, including at home against the likes of Aston Villa and Manchester United.
The East Anglian outfit perhaps needs one major result at Portman Road to get them going. Newcastle's only clean sheet on the road was in a drab draw at Everton and Ipswich could spoil their Christmas mood.
IPSWICH TO WIN
West Ham vs Brighton
The slightly happier Hammers will prepare to welcome the suffering Seagulls to the London Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
West Ham have lost only one of their last five at home, winning three times against Ipswich, Manchester United and Wolves. They came agonisingly close to winning at Bournemouth on Monday only for Enes Unal to curl in a 90th-minute leveller.
Still, given the Cherries' home form, that was a point Julen Lopetegui would have welcomed.
Brighton's superb early season form under Fabian Hurzeler has subsided for now, with the Seagulls winless in their last four games.
They dominated the ball against Crystal Palace last weekend at home but got done over on the scoresheet, the Eagles much more proficient in terms of creating good scoring chances as they easily won 3-1.
Just five points separate these teams now, which is hard to believe as Hurzeler was gaining all sorts of plaudits in the autumn and Lopetegui was battling to save his job.
The five-point gap may remain in situ after this tussle. Five times in the last six meetings at the London Stadium these teams have finished level, four of which were scoring draws.
WEST HAM VS BRIGHTON DRAW
Crystal Palace vs Arsenal
Oliver Glasner felt his Crystal Palace side were guilty of showing too much respect to Arsenal as they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup at the Emirates in midweek, losing 3-2 after taking the lead inside five minutes.
They get a chance to avenge that loss now but will be worried by the fact that it was their fifth successive defeat against the Gunners and they had failed to score in three of the previous four.
Mikel Arteta's side are much better equipped to dig in and churn out a scrappy result now, but the fitness of Declan Rice will be crucial to them.
Arsenal have dropped points in successive league games against Fulham and Everton and they will know only too well Liverpool have the possibility of a nine-point gap should they win their game in hand.
Arsenal have only won one of their last six Premier League away games and Arteta may bemoan the fact this is a third straight London derby away assignment.
They do, of course, have the memory of scoring five in the first half at West Ham last month.
Palace are improving, albeit hardly at a rate of knots, but even before Christmas this has the feel of a game Arsenal must win.
They haven't kept a Premier League clean sheet away since the North London derby win over Spurs in September.
Palace have only scored six home league goals in eight and less should be read into two of them coming in a draw with Manchester City last time than might ordinarily have been the case, given how Pep Guardiola's side are in a state of freefall.
Arsenal could use a scrappy win right now and they might just edge a low-scoring affair.
ARSENAL TO WIN & UNDER 2.5 GOALS
