The 2025 MLB season is nearly here as teams are going through their routine Spring Training schedule to prepare for the long season. Plenty of teams around the league are looking to improve on last season, one of which is the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Blue Jays finished last season with a record of 74-88 and last place in the American League East.

We’ll discuss the odds for the Blue Jays this season in several of the main futures markets, along with the offseason moves for the Blue Jays, who to look out for in terms of season prospects and our best futures bet for Toronto in the 2025 season.

Toronto Blue Jays 2024-25 Offseason

Below are some of the offseason moves made by the Blue Jays, both players brought in and players that left the team.

Players In

First up are some of the top players the Blue Jays brought in for the upcoming season. This includes players acquired through a trade or players signed through free agency:

Max Scherzer - SP

Easily the biggest signing for the Blue Jays this offseason was Max Scherzer. Of course, there is a concern about Scherzer’s age (40) and his recent injuries. Scherzer started just nine games last season with the Texas Rangers, going 2-4 with an ERA of 3.95. That said, his career numbers speak for themselves and he looks to be a much-needed addition to the Blue Jays pitching staff.

Andrés Giménez - 2B & Nick Sandlin - RP

Andrés Giménez (2B) & Nick Sandlin (RP) were acquired in a trade with the Cleveland Guardians. Giménez is a three-time Gold Glove winner and will make a great addition at second base with Bo Bichette at shortstop.

Yimi Garcia - RP & Jeff Hoffman - RP

Both Yimi Garcia and Jeff Hoffman are welcome additions to the Blue Jays bullpen for the 2025 season.

Garcia has dealt with some injuries over the years, pitching in just nine games in 2024, while Hoffman had one of his best seasons in 2024 with the Phillies, posting an ERA of 2.17 in 68 games.

Anthony Santander - OF

The Blue Jays already have some power in their lineup, but the addition of Anthony Santander (five-year, $92.5 million contract) will add even more. Santander was selected as an All-Star in 2024, batting .235 with 44 home runs (career-high).

Players Out

Next up are a couple of players who left Toronto, either through a trade or because the Blue Jays did not resign them:

Spencer Horwitz - 1B and Nick Mitchell - OF

Spencer Horwitz (1B) and Nick Mitchell (OF) are the players the Blue Jays traded away in the deal to bring in Andrés Giménez (2B) & Nick Sandlin (RP).

Jordan Romano - RP & Dillon Tate - RP

Both Romano and Tate were non-tendered by the Blue Jays, making them free agents ahead of the 2025 season.

Toronto Blue Jays 2025 MLB Season Prospects

One of the top prospects to look forward to this season for Toronto is Orelvis Martinez. He has already played at the MLB level, albeit just one game in June 2024.

However, he is ranked as the number three prospect in the Blue Jays system and if he has a good Spring Training, there is a chance we could see him more in a Blue Jays uniform.

Toronto Blue Jays Best Futures Bet: Over 78.5 Wins (-130)

While the Blue Jays still seem a few years away from pushing for a division title, league title or World Series, their win total looks to be very reachable.

As previously mentioned, Toronto finished last season with a disappointing 74 wins but some of their additions could make an immediate impact to help them improve on last season.

Most notably, Scherzer should slot in nicely to a Toronto pitching staff that was ranked 22nd last season in ERA (4.29) and allowed 4.59 runs per game.

Not only does Scherzer look set to make an impact, but Anthony Santander is a power bat who could help improve a Toronto offense that averaged 4.14 runs per game.

Because of these additions, plus the players Toronto already has, such as Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette, our Blue Jays best futures bet for the 2025 MLB season will be for the Blue Jays to go Over 78.5 Wins (-130).
